What is a shamanic healing session like?

Native Drums

The word "shaman" in the original Tungus language refers to a person who makes journeys to nonordinary reality in an altered state of consciousness. Adopting the term in the West was useful because people didn't know what it meant.

                                                                                                                        -Michael Harner-

Shamanism is the most ancient spiritual practice known to humans. Many anthropologists believe that the practice dates back over 100,000 years.

Shamans are often looked at as "see-ers", healers or people "who know". In Shamanism we use our ability to see "with the strong eye" or "with the heart". As a shamanic practitioner I believe that all illness has a spiritual aspect and by working with my helping spirits, I intend to diminish or at best illiminate the spiritual aspect of my clients illness or imbalance.

The methodoloy of core shamanism evolved from Michael Harner's anthropological knowledge and experience. Shamanism is part of a holistic approach to healing, and it can provide a spiritual component to the healing process that is lacking from our current medical models. As a shamanic practitioner I focus on the spiritual aspect of illness. The spiritual aspect of illness is the part that is unseen in ordinary reality and relates to the soul of the person.

In working with a client I first have a conversation to cleary identify the focus of the session and determine the intention for the healing work to be performed. This type of session is available long-distance and in person as well.

I will then perform what is called a shamanic journey on behalf of my clients request. I use forms of sonic driving like drumming and rattling to access the shamanic state of consciousness and travel to the non-ordinary reality. In the invisible realms of the non-ordinary reality reside a variety of helping spirits the assist me in the healing process for my client. Some of the helping spirits appear to me in animal form while others appear to me in human form.

Even though illness and imbalance manifest on an emotional or physical level there often is a spiritual aspect that needs to be addressed for healing to occur. In Shamanism we attibute three different causes to illness. These three causes are power loss, soul loss and intrusions and/or possessing spirits. During my journey I work with my helping spirits to diagnose the cause of the illness and then help perform the required treatment for healing. In this work I am merely a channel for the healing power of the helping spirits.

This type of healing work is very powerful for chronic depression, chronic illness and misfortune. It is also very beneficial for any kind of trauma, PTSD and sexual, emotional and verbal abuse.

In my shamanic practice I also offer compassionate support for the dying to assist the soul on the journey to its destination after death.
